Based
on 20 years experience, I believe that almost every aesthetically
imperfect nose can be made more beautiful by surgical intervention,
even if previous surgical interventions have failed.
The
nose is the most prominent feature on a human face and as
such contributes a great deal to facial harmony. Therefore,
it is not unusual to discover somebody who suffers because
of his or her non-symmetrical facial feature. They are aware
that their imperfection is very noticeable. Very sensitive
people can suffer psychological restraints because of their
imperfection and often fail to achieve their full potential
and success.
Opinion
polls conducted on patients who have undergone nasal surgery,
usually young people, show that they experience increased
confidence, become more active and deal with everyday problems
more successfully after their operation. "Nothing is
like it use to be. I feel that people listen to me and respect
me", said a patient of mine, when she came back for her
3 month check-up, after having her nose surgically improved.
The patient gained stability and self-confidence. The beauty
of the nose is dependant on its size, its proportion to the
face, a regular upper line, nicely shaped nostrils and the
optimal width (narrower noses are usually more beautiful).
The
success of cosmetic surgery depends on a number of factors
but the surgeon's skill is paramount. Anatomic particularities
of one's skin and sub-skin structure (the way in which it
heals) and the patient's likely reaction to the operation
are also very important. Furthermore, success depends on preoperative
consultation with and medical examination of the patient.
This is when patient's wishes are precisely determined and
matched with the operative possibilities (which are dictated
by patient's anatomic peculiarities).
The
course of the operation:
The
operation is preceded by a routine preoperative analysis of
the patient, which includes blood tests and an ECG. Before
the operation, photos of the patient are taken. This is standard
practice before cosmetic surgery.
Thanks
to modern anesthetics the operation itself is completely painless.
The operation lasts 30 to 60 minutes. With the technique I
use, there are no scars left on the outside of the nose. During
the operation the bone is sculpted using special surgical
instruments. Usually the nose needs to be made smaller but
it can be made bigger if required. The whole operation is
done on the inside of the nose. When the optimal size, shape
and line are obtained a nasal splint is put on the nose. The
splint stays in place for 7 days to allow all the nasal structures
to heal. During the first three days, after the operation,
a patient needs the nasal packing, which prevents bleeding
and supports the new form of the nose, from the inside.
Any
functional procedures can also be undertaken at the same time
as the aesthetic operation, if necessary (i.e. deviation of
septum).
PRACTICAL
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PATIENT
The
operation is done under enhanced local anesthetic. That means
that besides the local anesthetic, a patient is also given
a light sedative. The patient is asleep during the operation
and the whole procedure is painless. A patient stays in the
surgery for approximately 5 hours. It takes about an hour
for preoperative preparations, 30 minutes for the operation
itself after which the patient rests for 3 to 4 hours. Once
released from the surgery the patient is sent to home care.
THE
LENGTH OF STAY IN ZAGREB is 3 to 7 days. The nasal packing
needs to be removed from the nose on the third day after the
operation. The nasal splint remains on the nose until the
8th day after the operation. The patient can go home on the
third day, after the nasal packing is removed, but he/she
can stay in Zagreb all 7 days, if they wish, as the metal
splint needs to be removed on the 8th day after the operation.
SICK
LEAVE lasts 7 to 10 days. On the 8th day, once the splint
is removed the patient can resume his / her normal life and
professional activities. However, in the period following
the operation, the patient should avoid activities that could
result in injuries to the nose (for example, ball sports).
On
the day of the operation the patient must bring a blood test
that is no more than 1-day-old. We can do blood tests on the
day of the operation, if arranged prior to your arrival.
TThe
price of cosmetic nose surgery ranges from 1680-2200 EUR.
