GYNECOMASTIA-CORRECTION OF ENLARGED MALE BREASTS

Male breasts can be significantly enlarged, which can present a serious aesthetic and psychological problems for the person affected. There are two main causes of enlarged male breasts.

Benign growth of glandular tissue on male breasts, due to the presence of the female hormone estrogen in adolescent men, causes enlargement.

The accumulation of fatty tissue on male breasts could also be the cause. The result of both types of accumulation is that male breasts are significantly enlarged and look like female breasts.

In either case, the correction of enlarged male breasts can be successfully achieved by surgery.

The patient is sent for an endochrynological examination prior to the removing of excess tissue from male breasts.

An incision is made on the very edge of the areola, and the glandular or fatty tissue is sucked out through the small incision, which is completely unnoticeable when healed after the operation.

If too big, male nipples can also be reduced during this operation.

This operation is performed under general anesthetic, administered by a top anesthetist.

PRACTICAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PATIENT

• Prior to the operation, the patient needs to go through an internist examination and has to have a blood test.
  
• The stay in our surgery is 24 hours and after that the patient is sent to home care.
  
• The stay in Zagreb is only one day. The patient can return home the next day.
  
• Recovery lasts for 7 days. On the 7th day after surgery, the patient can resume his normal life and professional activities. The patient should avoid hard physical activities and the lifting of heavy objects for 30 days after the operation.
