BREAST REDUCTION

A new surgical technique for breast reduction, using a small vertical incision resulting in minimal scaring, is now available.

The ideal breast reduction operation would be one that formed beautiful and youthful breasts with no scar. Until now this was difficult to achieve but significant research in the field of cosmetic surgery has brought us closer to meeting these two conditions.

The new surgical method for breast reduction using a very small vertical cut brings us pretty close to that ideal. The classic surgery (using an incision in the shape of inverted T) left an ugly and very noticeable scaring, which meant that both surgeon and patient felt unsatisfied with the aesthetic aspects of the operation. Patients were destined to hide their breasts forever and could not wear low-cut dresses.

With new surgical techniques for breast reduction a small vertical incision is placed near the nipple and is not noticeable because it is on the areola (area of dark pigmentation). The vertical scar is below the nipple and is 5 to 9 cm long, depending on the size of breasts before the operation. The scar does not go over any natural breast crease and is hardly noticeable. With this new technique, especially if it is combined with breast hidroliposuction, there is a shorter recovery period and the risk of postoperative complications is reduced. The operation is, technically, relatively simple and takes less time than classic methods. This procedure gives great results. Because of all the advantages, mentioned earlier, I always use these techniques in breast reduction operations. The key advantages are good cosmetic results, technical simplicity and reduced risk of complications.

PRACTICAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PATIENT

  • The patient needs to go through the internist examination (ECG) and has to have a blood test in order to make sure that the patient is healthy and that she can undergo the operation. These examinations are not done in our surgery.
  • This operation is done under general anesthetic given by a top anesthetist. The operation is completely painless.
  • Stay in the surgery lasts 24 hours and after that the patient is sent to home care.
  • The stay in Zagreb (for those patients who are not from Zagreb) is 7 days
  • Recovery and sick leave last for 14 days. On the 14th day, stitches are removed from the incision. This needn't be done in our surgery. After the 14th day of recovery, the patient can resume a normal life and professional activities. However, the patient should avoid hard physical activities and the lifting of heavy objects for 30 days after the operation.
