DENTAL IMPLANTS

The wide area of cosmetic dentistry includes the replacement of missing teeth, treatment and fixing of the existing teeth, together with aesthetic and functional corrections. With the term cosmetic dentistry we primarily refer to dental prosthetics, i.e. implantology.

Dental implants are titanium screws placed in the upper or lower jaw bone. They act as the teeth roots, so we use them as an anchor for crowns, bridges or prosthesis. In our surgery we use two world-wide renowned and clinically proven implant systems: Ankylos and Astra tech.

The dental implant procedure consists of two phases. The first phase is surgical (placing dental implants) while the second one is prosthetic (placing prosthetic replacement). Therefore, your treatment is divided into two phases, meaning two visits here. During your first visit, which includes a thorough examination with consultation, and dental X-ray analysis, we determine the plan and procedure that is best for your individual case. The next step includes implantation, i.e. the placement of dental implants. It usually takes 10 – 14 weeks for osseointegration to be complete, and once completed, we enter into the second, and final, phase of dental implant procedure, which includes dental prosthetics. The prosthetic phase is the same as in the classical prosthetic work. The first phase takes 5 to 7 days, and the second phase lasts 7 to 12 days.

Today, dental implants are universally accepted and thus more frequently used as dental replacements, which are, with the rapid improvement of technology, becoming better (the fact that, at present, the implantation success rate is more than 95 % speaks for itself). Once placed, the implant preserves the bone structure and it can often be used as an anchor for different dental work. Dental implant procedure is, like all other procedures in our surgery, minimally invasive and completely painless, and the postoperative recovery period is short.
