DENTAL PROSTHETICS
The wide area of cosmetic dentistry includes the replacement of missing teeth, treatment and fixing of the existing teeth, together with aesthetic and functional corrections. With the term cosmetic dentistry we primarily refer to dental prosthetics, i.e. implantology.
Dental prosthetics, as a part of dentistry, deals with replacement of missing teeth, aesthetic correction of the existing teeth (teeth deformities, uneven teeth…) etc. Basically, we improve the function and aesthetic look of teeth, which leads to a higher quality of your lifestyle, in terms of beauty and health.
There are two basic options in dental prosthetics: removable and fixed prosthetics. I won’t be drawing attention to the removable prosthetics, because partial or complete lack of teeth is solved by dental implants today.
Fixed dental prosthetics includes crowns and bridges, which are fixed in your mouth and not removable. In our surgery, we only use porcelain crowns and bridges, and you can choose between all porcelain and porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain fused to metal crowns and bridges have a metal structure, over which porcelain is baked (the metal part is not visible). These teeth are completely adequate and satisfying both aesthetically and functionally. All porcelain, i.e. cercon ceramics is aesthetically better than porcelain fused to metal, and we use it as an alternative to ceramic veneers. Aesthetically, all porcelain crowns are just like veneers and their biocompatibility is excellent. Also, unlike veneers, we cement them classically which makes them less sensitive to falling off or cracking. For more information, you can visit www.cercon-smart-ceramics.com.
The prosthetic process has different phases. Your first visit includes a thorough examination, consultation and an X-ray analysis of your teeth. Here, we determine the plan and procedure that is best for your individual case. During your second and third visit (depends on the extent of the work) we abrade the teeth and prepare them for the impression. At this point, we also make temporary replacement bridges that reduce the pain after the abrading. While we wait for the final phase of the process, the replacement bridges also aesthetically replace the abraded teeth. During your next visit, we choose the metal or cercon, and decide on the colour. Finally, in your last visit, we try the prosthesis on, check the colour and shape, and if it is satisfactory, we cement it. This process takes 7 to 12 days, depending on whether we work with cercon ceramics or porcelain fused to metal. The process is completely painless because we use very strong anaesthetic.
