Here are some key steps to follow before the surgery:
1. Consultation with the surgeon: you will have a detailed consultation with Dr. Dinko Tončić during which you will go through your goals and expectations for the procedure. The doctor will do an examination of the entire nose, as well as explain everything about the procedure and post-operative recovery.
2. Medical tests: before the procedure, it is necessary to do a blood tests, an ECG, and an examination by an internist, depending on the type of anesthesia used in your procedure. This ensures that you are fit to undergo a nose correction surgery.
3. Therapy and medication: our team will give you a list of medication to avoid in the week before surgery, such as aspirin and other medication containing acetylsalicylic acid, which can increase the risk of bleeding during surgery.
4. Tobacco products: if you are a smoker, we advise you to quit or significantly reduce smoking one week before and after the surgery, to improve the healing process.
5. Post-surgery recovery: prepare your home for a comfortable recovery, including cold compresses (ice gel) to help reduce post-operative swelling.
Our team will ensure that you feel comfortable and safe on the day of the surgery. From the moment you arrive at the clinic to the final check-up, every step is carefully planned to provide you with the best experience:
1. Patient check-in: our friendly team will welcome you upon your arrival at the clinic. You will then have a detailed consultation with Dr. Dinko Tončić, during which you will fil out and sign the necessary medical documentation. We will also take preoperative photos and finalize the payment for the procedure.
2. Preparation for surgery: our team will help you store your personal items in a locker, provide you with a medical gown, and complete all necessary medical preparations for the surgery.
3. Anesthesia: rhinoplasty is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the surgeon’s recommendation and your preferences. The procedure itself is safe and painless for the patient, regardless of the type of anesthesia.
4. Procedure: a standard closed rhinoplasty procedure takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour. The surgeon will carefully reshape the nose through incisions inside the nostrils, to achieve the desired result without any visible external scars.
5. Post-operative care: after the surgery, we will get you settled in the recovery room, where our team will monitor your condition until you are ready to be discharged from the clinic. Before leaving the clinic, you will receive detailed written and verbal instructions on post-operative care, as well as pain medication.
After rhinoplasty, you will stay in our clinic for up to 24 hours, depending on the type of anesthesia and the extent of the surgery. You will receive all necessary information for a quick and painless recovery, including medical advice, support and medication:
1. First 72 hours: during the first three days after surgery, it is important to rest and ice the nose and the nape of the neck to reduce swelling. Avoid physical activities, sun exposure, and smoke-filled rooms.
2. First check-up: we schedule the first check-up on the third postoperative day, during which the nasal packings are removed. This process is painless and takes only a few seconds, as we use light (thin and short) packings.
3. Second check-up: one week after the surgery, we will remove the splint from the nose, allowing you to see your new nose for the first time. The doctor will examine your nose externally and internally and provide further post-operative instructions.
4. Return to normal activities: most patients can return to their daily activities within ten days after the procedure, while avoiding strenuous activities (e.g. working out) during the first 6-8 weeks post-surgery.
5. Long-term care: we will continue to monitor your recovery in the following weeks to ensure the healing process goes smoothly. We advise a regular check-up at the clinic two months after the surgery, when we can objectively assess the results of the rhinoplasty. This check-up can also be scheduled online.

You can start wearing makeup one week after the surgery, once the splint is removed from the nose.
You will have to stay in Zagreb for 24 hours to 7 days after the procedure, depending on your place of residence. Nasal packings are removed three days after the surgery, and the splint is removed from the nose seven days after the surgery. We usually recommend patients from abroad to stay a full week in Zagreb, so we can remove the splint and do the final postoperative check-up at the clinic.
