Cosmetic ear surgery – otoplasty

Otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that permanently corrects protruding or deformed ears. Ideally, after the procedure, ears are nicely shaped and properly positioned close to the head.

Among the most common ear deformities are protruding ears that can be corrected successfully. As protruding ears may interfere with a child's psychosocial development, it is advisable to have this surgery at preschool age.

Otoplasty is also successfully performed at grownups, who want to get rid of the protruding ears.

Ear deformities are innate, which can manifest in an irregular form or position of the ear auricles. The protruding ear is the most common ear deformity, which can be visible on one or both ears.

Although ear correction is considered minor surgery, this is an aesthetic procedure that requires a cosmetic surgeons with top education, many years of experience and sense for beauty.

In cases of severe auricle deformities, we perform more complex reconstructive procedures with the aim of making the ear auricle looking as natural as possible.

Surgical methods without visible scars and our 30 years of experience

For over 30 years, we have been successfully performing corrections of different ear deformities and reconstructive ear surgeries. We place surgical incision behind the ear. During the surgery, we tailor the skin and the cartilage to create a new form of the ear.

As the incision is made on the back side of the ear, the sutures and the scar are not visible. After the surgery, the ears look more elegant and are fixed in the desired position.

Otoplasty in our clinic

Cosmetic ear surgery is a minor surgical procedure, which is easy and painless for the patient. During preoperative preparation, we thoroughly analyze the ears and plan the surgery with the patient.

We perform otoplasty in local anesthesia, while at children under 12; the procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The operation lasts 60 to 90 minutes.

The patient stays in the clinic for a few hours: preoperative preparation lasts about an hour while the procedure itself lasts about an hour, up to an hour and a half. After the surgery, the patient is discharged and sent to home care.

Otoplasty at preschool age

Parents often wonder about the most appropriate age for a child to have otoplasty. Most surgeons agree that otoplasty should be performed at an early age, right before school, as it enables the child to have a normal psychosocial development.

The advantages of otoplasty performed at preschool age

We perform otoplasty under general anaesthesia for all children younger than 12, while for adults and children older than 12, we use local anaesthesia.

  • by the age of six, ear deformity is already completely developed and the ear auricle is big enough for the procedure
  • the child's organism recovers quickly and easily from surgery and is rapidly whole
  • children arrive into new environment without noticeable anomalies – avoiding the basis for the development of a psychological complex
